The official website of the Department of Immigration and Emigration of Sri Lanka has announced the transition to a new system for obtaining an electronic travel authorization to the country - eVisa. Now tourists need to fill out an application for an electronic visa before arriving in the country.

The message notes that in order to apply for a visa under the new rules, you need to create an account on the official eVisa portal, fill out an online questionnaire, upload the necessary documents and a photo. In addition, it will be necessary to pay a service fee of $18.50. The cost of the visa itself will depend on the validity period and the length of stay in the country, as well as the possibility of re-entry.

At the same time, the new rules do not yet apply to citizens of China, India, Indonesia, Russia, Thailand, Malaysia and Japan. Tourists from these countries are exempt from eVisa fees until April 30, 2024.
