Over the past few years, dozens of new insect pests have been identified on the territory of the resort, which destroy coniferous trees and palm trees. During the experiment, the Ministry of Natural Resources of the Russian Federation found out that the treatment of plantations with chemicals gives only a short-term effect. As a result, scientists and ecologists came to the conclusion about the need for a systemic passage and complex measures.

Phytosanitary monitoring will make it possible to draw up a clear plan for tree treatments. Along with this, a nursery with local planting material is already being created in Sochi.

Doctor of Biological Sciences of the Center of the Russian Academy of Sciences Natalya Karpun emphasized that this project is a long-term one, so the effect of it will be visible no earlier than in 10 years, when the seedlings get stronger and are ready for planting. Planting young trees is not effective enough, because their survival rate in the urban environment is extremely low.

In Sochi, 2022 has been declared the year of the environment. In this regard, more than 50,000 trees and shrubs will be planted. It is also planned to continue programs for the restoration of chestnut forests and boxwood in the Sochi National Park. New urban areas will receive the status of specially protected areas. Nine corners of green art by architect Sergei Ilyich Venchagov will be landscaped.
