Over the past 10 years, the number of plant species in the federal territory has decreased. A geobotanical map will help assess the impact of climate change, human activities, and introduced species on local flora. Scientists will analyze soil samples, describe all plants, and study their genomes.
“We plan to create a classic herbarium, which we will use in educational programs at Sirius University,” said Alexey Rozanov, a leading research fellow at Sirius University. “Also, for the first time, we will compile a list of adapted plant species that are resistant to local climatic conditions and pathogens, and are economically viable to maintain.”
The research results will be part of the "Green Platform" project, which involves comprehensive greening of urban spaces, the creation of sustainable land use centers, and the revival of garden and park art traditions.
