The press service of the Losiny Ostrov National Park announced the results of winter monitoring of wild animal populations. Accounting was carried out on the forest territory of all forestries. 14 routes with a total length of more than 100 km were developed.
“This winter season has broken all records for the number of squirrels. Compared to last year, the number has almost doubled and amounted to 258 individuals.
The winter count showed that the number of moose in the national park is stable and amounts to 42 individuals. In addition, an increase in the number of sika deer was found. Experts recorded 220 individuals. At the same time, more than 180 deer were counted last year.
Scientists also noted that the number of wild boars has slightly decreased. Last year there were 60 individuals, this year 50. Such fluctuations in numbers correspond to the norm. The numbers of white hare and fox remain without significant changes.
