Russian tourists have started visiting Egypt after almost six years since the crash of a Russian plane in 2015, which killed all 217 passengers and seven crew members on board, according to the local media.
Flights between Russia and Egypt were suspended in November 2015 following the fateful incident over the Sinai Peninsula.
Russia’s Federal Security Service (FSB) said at the time that the crash was a result of a terror attack.
However, Russian President Vladimir Putin recently lifted an order signed in 2015 that banned flights to Egypt’s resorts operated by Russian airlines.
Hurghada and Sharm el-Sheikh international airports received their first direct Russian flights from Moscow last week.
Egypt Independent quoted the Russian ambassador to Cairo Georgiy Borisenko as saying that flights will soon arrive from over 45 Russian cities.
He said that Russian tourists will enjoy ‘safety’ in the North African country.
Egypt has improved its system of checks for passengers and luggage as well as airport infrastructure, according to the local media.
