Russia wants to improve transport accessibility of national parks of federal significance

Russia wants to improve the transport accessibility of national parks of federal significance. As EcoTourism Expert came to know, this was discussed at a meeting with representatives of the Ministry of Natural Resources and the Ministry of Transport of the Russian Federation, the Federal Road Agency, as well as the leaders of special protected natural areas.


According to Elena Panova, deputy head of the Ministry of Natural Resources, the development of transport infrastructure will increase the investment attractiveness of the regions. In addition, this will lead to the development of eco-tourism which comply with international standards at the level of service and security, according to the agency.

The meeting participants spoke about the importance of arranging roads, as the transport accessibility of national parks which will increase the volume of tourist flow.

As part of the Ecology national project, the number of visitors to specially protected natural areas is planned to be increased to 10.3 million people by 2024.

According to Panova, the development plan for transport accessibility of protected areas will begin with 7 “pilot” territories. The list includes, in particular, the national parks "Bashkiria" (the Republic of Bashkortostan), "Zyuratkul" (the Chelyabinsk region), "Plescheevo lake" (the Yaroslavl region), "Pribaikalsky" (the Irkutsk region), "Taganay" (the Chelyabinsk region), "Tunkinsky" (the Republic of Buryatia) and "Ugra" (the Kaluga region).

All the pilot national parks submitted the proposals on road construction, reparation or reconstruction. They will be considered before March 1, 2020. And after the snow has melted by this May the regions should be ready to present their projects to the Ministry of Natural Resources of Russia.
