(Rough&Polished) - Irina Makanova, Director of the Department for State Policy and Regulation in the Development of Specially Protected Natural Areas of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Ecology of the Russian Federation, said at a press conference at the TASS press center following the results of the Great Scientific Expedition that by 2024 Russia should generally create over 24 specially protected natural areas.
Just yesterday, another national park, Chersky was created, this is in the Magadan region, she said, noting that design materials and a draft government decree on the Pompeevsky national park in the Jewish Autonomous Region were submitted to the government, the creation of which will actually close the network of specially protected natural territories necessary for the development of the tiger range.
Also in the project is the creation of the national park "Tula zaseki" in the Tula region. A number of territories will be created right in 2023. This is the Big Tokko Reserve and Laptev Sea Reserve in the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia). There are plans to create a national park in the Murmansk region and in the Nizhny Novgorod region.
According to Makanova, the creation of specially protected natural areas serves to protect flora and fauna and natural ecosystems, which are located within the boundaries of specially protected natural areas. In addition, special attention has recently been paid to such areas as environmental education, upbringing and eco-tourism.
In terms of environmental education, she said, support from business helps a lot. "We have signed relevant agreements with Norilsk Nickel, Zarubezhneft, Rosneft, Gunvor, and Lukoil," Makanova said.
