The session "Ecology of the future begins in Russia", dedicated to the country's contribution to the formation of global environmental policy, was held on the second day of the International Forum "Eco Altai. The thread of nature". The Forum takes place on September 29-30, 2023 on the territory of the all-season resort "Manzherok" in the Altai Republic.

The session was moderated by the Ambassador of the Union of Women of Russia Albina Dudareva.

The participants of the discussion noted that any negative impact on the environment, if it is not compensated, leads to a reduction in biodiversity. In this context, it is important to think not only about the conservation of those species of animals and plants that are in plain sight.

"The danger to a much greater extent is that species whose names none of us knows, which live in soil and water, are disappearing in huge numbers. Thus, 1 million living creatures live in one cubic centimeter of fresh or sea water at a temperature of 5 to 45 degrees. It is these producers and reducers who create biomass that play a major role in the life of the biosphere," said Viktor Danilov–Danilyan, a Russian scientist, economist, ecologist, hydrologist, corresponding member of the Russian Academy of Sciences, urging to concentrate on preserving the biodiversity ecosystem that has been formed for thousands and millions of years.

The experts drew attention to the fact that ensuring sustainable environmental development requires, among other things, the mobilization of the available intellectual potential of specialists from a wide range of sciences about nature and society.

"The main task is to remove the conflict between the biosphere and the technosphere, to build them on the principle of coexistence, and then their convergence will occur," said the president of the Society of Biotechnologists of Russia, Doctor of Biological Sciences, Professor Raif Vasilov. According to him, it is possible to transform the technosphere created and used by man on the basis of nature-like technologies, and such developments are available, in particular, from specialists of the Kurchatov Institute Research Center.

On the eve of the forum, the issue of developing a new Strategy for environmental Safety was discussed. During today's session, the participants assessed the potential time frame for working on this document. "I confirm and will insist that it is necessary to start creating a new Environmental Safety Strategy as soon as possible and try to extend it as far as possible, maybe until 2050. And, of course, it must be done by 2025," said the Adviser to the President of the Russian Federation, head of the Presidential Council for the Development of Civil Society and Human Rights (HRC) Valery Fadeev.

The participants of the discussion came to the conclusion that new platforms should be created to discuss environmental problems, and one of them could be the BRICS summit, which will be held in Kazan in 2024.

"Scientific research institutes dealing with environmental conservation issues have been formed in our country ahead of everyone else in the world. This is a serious argument in discussions, and otherwise in the offensive. It seems to me that we have the opportunity to form our own rules of the game in cooperation with those who are on good terms with us," said Vyacheslav Fetisov, Chairman of the All–Russian Society for Nature Conservation, State Duma deputy, UN Goodwill Ambassador.

Deputy Head of the Control Department of the President of the Russian Federation Valentin Letunovsky drew attention to the fact that there are now a lot of documents related to strategic planning, but there are practically no documents on the strategic implementation of initiatives. "This is the basic issue that we need to put on the agenda," he stressed.

Associate Professor of the Faculty of Philosophy of Lomonosov Moscow State University, Candidate of Philosophical Sciences Taras Varkhotov noted that the culture that will be able to realize that ecology is its fate and the fate of humanity will receive global prospects in the future.
