The press service of the Ministry of Natural Resources reported that the Russian government approved a draft agreement with China on the establishment of an international protected area for tigers and leopards. It is planned that it will be signed before the end of 2023.
The Land of the Big Cats transboundary reserve will include Russia's Land of the Leopard National Park and the Kedrovaya Pad Nature Reserve, and on the Chinese side, the Northeast Tiger and Leopard National Park.
"In these territories, cooperation between the two countries will be built to protect the ecological system. Wild animals will be provided with conditions for unhindered migration, and scientists will conduct joint scientific research, environmental monitoring and observations of groups of rare predators. Also, according to the draft agreement, the parties will jointly fight against poaching and forest fires, as well as to carry out environmental education activities.
The issue of creating an international protected area was worked out within the framework of the Russian-Chinese working group on issues of transboundary protected natural areas and the conservation of biological diversity of the Russian-Chinese subcommittee on cooperation in the field of environmental protection.
