Large snow-white, pale pink and cream flowers adorn the slopes of the resort at an altitude of more than two thousand meters in the subalpine and alpine zones. Most often in the mountains of the Caucasus you can see three varieties of this unusual plant - yellow, Pontic and Caucasian. Rhododendrons grow very slowly, however, some species reach three meters in height. You can now admire the flowering slopes directly from the cable cars. It must be borne in mind that the beauty of these plants is deceptive - they are more or less dangerous to humans, all their parts are toxic and it is forbidden to touch them. Rhododendrons will bloom in the mountains of Sochi for about two more weeks.
The middle of summer on the mountain slopes will be marked by the flowering of orchids, bluebells, and by autumn they will be covered with saffron and colchicum. In total, over 1650 species of native plants are found in the rich flora and fauna of the Caucasian Black Sea region. More than 180 species of animals and plants are rare and listed in the Red Books. Every fifth species is endemic, that is, it is not found anywhere else in the world. Special notices installed at the resort inform guests about the importance of preserving rare plants and urge them not to touch them.
