Over the past autumn, patrol officers drove away predators from residential buildings more than 50 times and did not allow a single accident.
In Chukotka, polar bears were especially active and visited many coastal villages. Predators were driven away in the villages of Lavrentiya, Uelen, Inchoun. In the villages of Billings and Ryrkaipiy, from August to early November, encounters with predators occurred at least once a week. On some days, there were up to 30 animals in the vicinity of the villages.
Nevertheless, not a single serious incident happened during the season: neither people nor polar bears were injured.
During the autumn, patrolmen were always on the alert. Their phone number is known to local residents, which people immediately call in the event of a meeting with a predator. Volunteers from the "bear patrols" quickly respond to such calls and come to drive away uninvited guests with the help of an ATV or a snowmobile.
Now the situation on the Chukotka coast is calm. In early November, the ice on the sea finally rose, and the bears went north. However, the "bear patrol" does not relax and is ready for new challenges.
