The press service of the National Park "Land of the Leopard" reported that over the past year, they managed to get a record number of frames informative for science depicting tigers, leopards and other forest animals. 500 camera traps took 1.8 thousand pictures, of which more than 700 thousand are informative.

"The photo record on the Land of the Leopard in the south of Primorsky Krai was set thanks to the growth of populations of rare animals and regular technical updating of the largest network of automatic forest cameras in Russia. The maximum number of animal passes is recorded, in particular Amur tigers and Far Eastern leopards," the statement says. in the message.

Camera traps allow scientists to obtain important data for counting the number of rare animals. At present, it has been established that at least 125 Far Eastern leopards live in Russia, as well as at least 48 Amur tigers. Thanks to camera traps, it is known that the highest density of the Amur tiger among all protected natural areas in the world is recorded in the south of Primorye.

Scientists obtained footage not only of rare cats, but also of the elusive Amur Gorals, two species of bears and six species of ungulates. Photographs help to collect information about unusual behavioral features from the life of animals in the wild.

Long-term photo monitoring has been carried out on the "Land of the Leopard" since 2013. Camera traps are set up and checked manually twice a year. Such research makes it possible to study unique animals without disturbing them.
