Among them is a baby giant prehensile-tailed skink. This endemic of the Solomon Islands and New Guinea inhabits a very limited area. Its numbers are under threat due to massive poaching.
In July, the most venomous snake in the world, McCoy's mainland taipan, whose venom is 180 times stronger than that of a cobra, laid its eggs at the zoo. In addition, a cub of the only poisonous lizard, the Mexican gila-tooth, was born.
Birds became record holders in the number of offspring. Chicks appeared in pelicans, cormorants, golden eagles, swans, pink and red flamingos, owls and Humboldt penguins. The Center for the Reproduction of Rare Species of Animals gave birth to chicks of snowy owls and Steller's sea eagles. And in the branch of the Moscow Zoo - the zoo in the Estate of Father Frost - the chicks of the West Siberian eagle owl hatched.
Brought offspring and mammals. In 2022, a baby crybaby capuchin, cubs of a lion-tailed macaque and a baby mandrill were born. In the spring, ring-tailed lemurs Bella and Funtik had a daughter, Bennett's wallabies and Dagestan turs also had offspring.
In the Center for the Reproduction of Rare Species of Animals, wolverines, vicunas, goitered gazelles, reindeer, Sichuan takins and zebu-like cows were replenished.
