The nest of the Imperial Eagle, rare for the region, was found in the Chavash Varmane National Park. This is the first case of breeding in Chuvashia in 13 years. In 2009, two chicks were successfully raised by a couple nesting in the Shemurshinsky district in the park.
The press service of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Ecology of the Republic reported that in early July, ornithologists checked the nest of eagles and found two chicks, female and male. Subsequently, they were ringed so that their future fate could be tracked. Thanks to ringing, it will later be possible to find out the places of migration and wintering of eagles from the region, the age at which young birds start breeding.
Imperial Eagles in the territory of Chuvashia have always been rare nesting birds. Their maximum abundance in the 1990s-2000s was estimated at 1-5 pairs, and in the last 10 years the species was encountered only during migrations.
