The press service of the Khakassian Reserve has provided an update on the construction of the Przewalski's Horse Reintroduction Center. Significant progress has been made to date. In addition to the construction of the enclosure fence, quarantine facilities, a research station, and other supporting facilities, an eco-tourist complex is being built in parallel, featuring an ecological trail, observation deck, and visitor center.
All complex works have been almost completely completed. It is expected that the center will be launched simultaneously with the tourist complex. This will not only contribute to the conservation of biodiversity but also to environmental education and attracting tourists.
The first horses are planned to be brought in next year. They will inhabit the "Kamyzyakskaya Steppe with Lake Ulukh-Kol" area. Initially, it was planned to relocate animals from the Orenburg Reserve. However, according to experts, to create a stable self-sustaining population, it is necessary to plan the importation of horses from different countries. In the first stage, it is planned to bring 14-16 individuals.
However, transporting horses is not as simple as it seems at first glance. Specialists faced the problem of the need to use an immobilization drug, which is prohibited in the Russian Federation. Existing domestic analogues do not guarantee successful transportation of the animal over a long distance.
In this regard, importing horses from Mongolia and China could be the optimal solution. These options are the most logistically convenient and may be less dangerous for the animals. This issue is planned to be discussed soon at the next meeting of the joint Russian-Mongolian commission.
