In the Magadan region and Yakutia, work is underway to extinguish forest fires. To intensify the fight against fire, special sounding planes artificially cause rain. This was reported by the Ministry of Natural Resources of Russia on its website.
Experts record an increase in the number of fires in these regions due to high thunderstorm activity.
In Yakutia, 97 forest fires are extinguished on an area of 77.5 thousand hectares, in the Magadan region - 51 fires on 15.2 thousand hectares. The situation is under control.
“The elimination of forest fires is complicated by the weather conditions prevailing in Yakutia and the Magadan region, namely hot, dry and windy weather, accompanied by short rains in some areas and dry thunderstorms in remote and hard-to-reach forest areas. In these regions, precipitation is artificially caused by special sounding aircraft. Additional mine lanes are being laid along the settlements," the Ministry of Natural Resources said in a statement.
As noted in the department, there are no threats to settlements and economic facilities.
According to the deputy head of Rosleskhoz Alexei Vengliny, who are quoted in the message, despite the difficult situation, the area of forest fires in the Far East today is several times lower than the average five-year values.
Yakutia and the Magadan region are assisted in extinguishing the fire by 519 specialists from the Aviation Forest Protection and regional forest fire units. In the near future, the grouping of forces will be increased.
