Scientists have found a previously unknown corridor in the pyramid of Khufu (Cheops), which is located on the Giza plateau in Egypt. This was announced by the Association of Tour Operators of Russia (ATOR) in its telegram channel.
Egyptian Minister of Tourism and Antiquities Ahmed Issa told a press conference that the corridor is 9 meters long and 2.1 meters wide.
For his part, the Egyptian historian and archaeologist Zaki Havas believes that this discovery is one of the most important in the modern era.
“The Pyramid of Pharaoh Khufu is one of the most famous pyramids in the world, because many holes were made in it, which were used by archaeologists to discover new secrets of the ancient Egyptian civilization,” Khavas said in the message.
As noted in ATOR, for research on the northern side of the Great Pyramid from 2016 to 2022, non-destructive methods were used, including infrared radiation, ground penetrating radar, ultrasound, as well as architectural and three-dimensional modeling.
"Several mysterious voids discovered," the report said.
Scientists hope that the new scan will allow them to obtain the necessary information about the ancient pyramids.
