The Ministry of Natural Resources of Russia has developed a draft law on the creation of a federal state information system for the state of the environment. Data will be collected on 15 types of environmental monitoring and systematized on one platform, the ministry said on its website.
“The system will aggregate the results of state monitoring of atmospheric air, water bodies, land, wildlife, radiation conditions, reforestation, and other types of state environmental monitoring. In addition, the system will contain information about the sources of negative environmental impact,” the statement says.
The new system will collect information about the state of the environment through the analysis and structuring of data.
“The project will allow to control the analyzed indicators on the territory of our country. The launch of the platform is scheduled for 2024,” said Alexander Kozlov, head of the Russian Ministry of Natural Resources, quoted by the agency.
The system will allow moving from manual collection and processing of unstructured data to environmental quality management, forecasting its changes and making decisions on regulatory impact measures.
The bill has been coordinated with all departments and supported by the Cabinet of Ministers of Russia. Within four months after the adoption of the law, the government must approve the procedure for the creation, operation and development of the information system.
