In accordance with the settlement agreement with Rosrybolovstvo and the Institute of Fisheries VNIRO Norilsk Nickel will release a total of 30 million fry of red Siberian sturgeon into the Yenisei by 2033.

Every year, three million fry purchased from operating enterprises of the West Siberian Fishery Basin will be sent to the river, sgnorilsk.ru reports.

The first event this year took place on June 9 near the village of Atamanova. 400.000 fry were released into the waters of the Yenisei River. During the last event, 460.000 fry of valuable fish were sent to the river. And in total, this year in June and July, Norilsk Nickel replenished the fish stocks of the Yenisei by three million Siberian sturgeon fry.

"Joint work with Rosrybolovstvo on the restoration of biological resources will bear fruit," says Evgeny Fedorov, Vice President for Energy at Norilsk Nickel. "And the fish that will grow out of the fry will remain as valuable, but will cease to be rare."

Over the next ten years, Norilsk Nickel will release another 30 million fry into the Siberian river – three million each year.
