More than 92 billion euros – this record amount was spent by tourists in 2019 in Spain, according to the National institute of statistics (INE).

The total influx of tourists was also a record for this European country - 83.7 million, which is 1.1% higher than in 2018.

Last year, the bulk of travelers arrived in Spain from the UK (18 million people), Germany and France (more than 11 million from each country).

According to the preliminary data from the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), Spain remained in 2019 the second most popular tourist destination in the world after France, ahead of the United States.

Last year British people spent in Spain more money than citizens of other countries (almost 18 billion euros), followed by the Germans (11.7 billion euros) and the French (7.6 billion euros).

The first place in the list of preferred tourist destinations in Spain was taken by Catalonia (19.4 million visitors), ahead of the Balearic Islands (13.7 million) and the Canary Islands (13.1 million).
