Namibia received 192,026 foreign visitors last year of which 169,565 were said to be tourists, about a 90% decline compared to 1,595,973 tourists that visited the country in 2019.
Namibia Economist reports, citing the country's annual National Tourists Arrival Statistics report, that South Africa overtook Angola to become the main African source market.
The neighbouring country provided 28.6% of total tourists to Namibia in 2020.
Germany remained the key overseas tourist market as it accounted for 11.6% of total tourist arrivals.
Germany and South Africa colonised Namibia.
Meanwhile, Namibia's tourism minister Pohamba Shifeta said the Tourism Revival Initiative (TRI) Statistics Report for September 2020 to March 2021 shows that the country received 61,663 tourists during the period.
"Although these figures are too low to sustain the sector, they are commendable and were worth the efforts of the government to open up our international airport and invite tourists back to Namibia as a safe destination during the COVID-19 pandemic," he said.
