Mospriroda published on its website tips on how and how to protect yourself from the bites of annoying insects without harming the environment.

“It is believed that natural repellents, such as essential oils, can literally work wonders. Just a few drops of eucalyptus and lavender oils applied to the skin can become your reliable "bodyguards". The smell of dried chamomile or mint affects the nervous system of insects, and they will disappear from your home for a long time. And just a few crushed cloves of garlic, spread out in the corners of the room, will get rid of mosquitoes for at least 10 hours,” the experts noted.

There are about 3,600 species of mosquitoes in the world that live on every continent except Antarctica. Representatives of 100 species live in Russia, and 24 species in the capital region.

“The mosquito in the form in which we know it has existed for at least 100 million years, while the individual life expectancy of an individual is from several days to several months,” Mospriroda said.

A mosquito squeak is emitted by the wings of an insect: both pairs of wings flap in flight simultaneously at a speed of about 1000 beats per second.

The female mosquito lays 30–150, rarely up to 280 eggs every two or three days in warm stagnant water with organic matter or aquatic vegetation. Depending on the water temperature, the duration of the development of an individual ranges from 40 hours to 8 days. Only female mosquitoes are blood-sucking: they need the proteins in the blood as a building material for the production of eggs. Males feed on nectar and plant juices. At the same time, collecting nectar, mosquitoes pollinate plants.
