The planting of new trees was carried out as part of the city greening program. The project was initiated by the University Plaza company with the support of the Sochi administration. A total of 53 new trees will add to the city's green outfit.

"Green «dress» is one of the main treasures of our city. Along with the sea, this is what attracts many guests to Sochi. Preserving the «green dome» of the resort is one of our priorities, including the Red Book pine (Pinus brutia)", said the director of the city Department for Environmental Protection, Forest Park, Agriculture and Industry Alexander Mamlay.

The site for planting pines was determined by specialists from the Department of Environmental Protection, Forest Park, Agriculture and Industry. Trees are planted not only on the right bank of the Psakhe River, but also in the city center - on the upper seaside embankment near the Russian International Olympic University.

“The complex of buildings of the University was created in Sochi in preparation for the 2014 Olympics. Since then, representatives of more than 70 countries of the world have become students of the educational institution. All of them come to Sochi and admire its beauty. Therefore, we actively support the improvement of the resort. These years, with our participation, the fountains near the "Festivalny" hall were restored, the territory of one of the city schools was greened, the destroyed staircase leading to the seaside embankment was restored. Planting pines is a continuation of this good tradition,» said Oleg Udachin, executive director of the company «University Plaza».

The tree planting was carried out by the specialists of the contractor company. In addition to representatives of the Sochi administration, students of the Russian International Olympic University, environmentalists and representatives of the city community were invited to participate in the project. Planting material, including Red Book pines, was grown in special nurseries.

"The planting material is excellent, living trees, living buds. Pines are meant for this ground, this climate. Unlike deciduous trees, pines are evergreen. These trees are the main protection against air pollution. They deposit micro-dust on needles. And pines do it all year round, they emit oxygen all year round, as well as useful phytoncides", noted Roman Romanov, director of the ecological expert center "ECO World".
