“This year, the Russian government has fully funded the modernization of the treatment facilities in the capital of Buryatia under the Ecology national project. Work began this year, and the preparation of the construction site has already been partially completed. The work is planned to be completed by the end of 2024, and put into operation in 2025,” the Ministry of Natural Resources said in a statement.
The capacity of the renovated treatment facilities will be 130,000 cubic meters per day.
As noted in the department, earlier the Russian government increased the list of areas that are financed from the budget under the federal project "Preservation of Lake Baikal". Now the regions located on the Baikal natural territory will be able to receive subsidies not only for the construction, reconstruction and modernization of treatment facilities, but also for engineering surveys and preparation of project documentation.
“This will additionally support the regions and help them speed up the construction of treatment facilities, which will reduce the amount of pollution entering Baikal along with sewage and preserve the unique ecosystem of the lake,” the report says.
