Every winter, the Mexican village of Petatan in the state of Michoacan in western Mexico becomes a shelter for thousands of pelicans migrating from Canada.

This phenomenon is comparable to the migration of monarch butterflies, it occurs at the same time, in the period from October to April.

Thousands of birds with white plumage and yellow beaks, whose length can reach 1.75 m, and a wingspan of three meters, are a truly fascinating sight.

Residents of Petatan, and there are about 5.000 people, hope that after the end of the COVID-19 pandemic, the pelican shelter will attract the attention of foreign tourists.
