The increased cluster of pelagic jellyfish was noted this season on the beaches of the Croatian part of the Adriatic. The movement of the Pelagia nostiluka caused by the currents and the wind direction forced rescuers in the oak tree to raise red flags to prevent swims. Over the past days, the number of those who turned out for help has grown several times. Meduses drive tourists not only from the water, where it is easy to notice Pelagia along a bright pink dome, but also from the beaches: the shore dotted with jadry corpses is not the most attractive place of rest. True, after sunset, the sea acquires a magical look, because Pelagia nostiluka glows in the dark. For which I got my beautiful name. Translated from Greek Pelagia Noktiluka means "glowing in the sea."

But the meeting in the water with a twenty -centimeter luminous beauty does not bring pleasure - Pelagia tentacles are able to apply tangible burns. A particularly strong burning sensation occurs in the delicate areas of the forearm and abdomen, hands suffer less, since the skin is thicker there.

According to Dr. Rada Garich, a researcher at the Institute of the Sea and the coast of the University of Dubrovnik - the bites of this jellyfish do not darken for a person. But skin irritation can be quite painful and can stay for a long time. To relieve unpleasant symptoms, Dr. Garich recommends wiping an injury with vinegar or warming the bite site with something warm, at least with a stone warmed up in the sun. And in no case do not touch your face with your hands - the striking cells of Pelagia are easily tolerated and even in a small concentration you can deliver a lot of trouble.
