In the spring, 58 red deer (maral) will be released into their natural habitat from the nursery of wild ungulates of the Buzinsky Nature Reserve in the Krasnoyarsk Territory. This was announced by the Association of Nature Reserves and National Parks of the Altai-Sayan Ecoregion on its website.
"Currently, planned veterinary measures have been completed in the nursery: animal examinations, vaccination against anthrax and rabies and tests for possible infections have been carried out," the message says.
The marals were moved to the quarantine zone, where they will be separated from the main herd until they find themselves in their natural habitat.
So, in March, experts will release some of these animals to the territory of the state nature reserves "Arga" in the Achinsk district and "Solgonsky Ridge" in the Uzhursky district of the region. And the rest of the marals will be released in May on the territory of the state reserve "Buzinsky" in the Balakhtinsky district.
"The release of animals to protected areas is due to the absence of a concern factor in the territories – ungulates are under the protection of state bodies. Biotech also has a positive effect on red deer: by equipping feeders and salt pans, state inspectors help animals adapt to new territories," the association noted.
The wild ungulate nursery was established in 2014 in the Buzinsky Nature Reserve to restore the number of the Arginsky maral subpopulation listed in the Red Book of the Krasnoyarsk Territory. During the operation of the nursery, there was a record increase in the offspring of the breeding stock - from 23% to 96%.
In total, 427 maral individuals were born here, 340 of them were released into their natural habitat.
