National Geographic included the Kamchatka Peninsula in the list of 25 corners of the world indispensable, according to the magazine, to visit in 2020. The listing was part of National Geographic's efforts to promote sustainable tourism. The list, broken down into four categories, offers travel with a focus on culture, urban life, nature and adventure. Located in Eastern Russia, the Kamchatka Peninsula is known for a huge number of volcanoes, 29 of which are still active. On the territory of Kamchatka there are also geysers, hot springs and many rivers and swamps. The region is known for its harsh winters and cool and humid summers. The indigenous population of Kamchatka are Itelmen, Koryaks, Chukchi and others.
