The International Organization for Standardization, ISO, approved a new international guide for tourist accommodation facilities, which increases the requirements for their management with respect to environmental responsibility.

As EcoTourism Expert has learned, ISO 21401 defines the environmental, social and economic requirements for implementing sustainable tourism infrastructure management practices.

The directive pays special attention to ecotourism and related issues of environmental protection, economical water consumption and use of environmentally friendly energy sources, as well as waste management and safety of customers and employees of tourist facilities.

According to the United Nations World Tourism Organization, tourism is one of the fastest growing sectors of the world economy, and in the period up to 2030, the number of tourists will increase annually by an average of 3.3 percent.
