The International Air Transport Association (IATA) stated that the risk of сontracting COVID-19 during flight is low, and therefore there is no need to separate passengers with an empty seat.

According to IATA, this measure, first of all, would lead to an increase in the cost of air tickets.

The organization pointed out that in the plane passengers sit facing forward and are separated from each other by seats. In addition, it is claimed that the ventilation system in the cabin does not contribute to the spread of the new coronavirus by air.
At the same time, IATA considers it necessary for passengers and crew members to wear masks. In addition, the measures approved by the organization provide for measuring the temperature of passengers, as well as limiting their movement around the cabin of the aircraft during the flight.

According to IATA, due to the situation with COVID -19 the total number of passengers carried by airlines may decrease by 1.2 billion by September this year compared to the average for the same month under normal conditions.
