Specialists of the Center for Underwater Research (CPI) of the Russian Geographical Society began a detailed study of the ship of the mid-18th century, which sank in the Gulf of Finland. Presumably, the ship was carrying alcohol, as hundreds of glass bottles were found in the cargo hold.
In this regard, the ship received the code name "Bottle".
“On board of the vessel, divers found an interesting cargo - hundreds of glass bottles: narrow and wide, factory-made and handmade. The glass industry of the 18th century is represented on the ship in all its diversity,” the Russian Geographical Society informs.
Gin was reportedly stored in such bottles in the past.
Now researchers from the Center for Research and Development of the Russian Geographical Society will continue to study the ship. They have yet to find out her exact age, to understand where and why the ship was going.
