The program «Hidden treasures of the undivided forest of Haguenau» will be held in the French city of Haguenau in northeastern France. The program aims at educating the inhabitants of Grand Est about the uniqueness of the local forest.

The French National Forestry Authority (ONF) told EcoTourism Expert, that the municipalities will organise 18 guided ecotours to the Haguenau Forest, which was declared France's Forêt d’Exception® last January.

The tours will reportedly cover a wide range of topics - they will allow ecotourists to discover the benefits that the Haguenau Forest embraces.

Qualified guides will talk about the biodiversity and the role of forests in the region as well as the need to preserve them.

This year, guides will conduct a tour dedicated to hunting in the Haguenau Forest, talk about clay mining in this forest by the legendary Soufflenheim potters, and also explain the logging processes.

The program will begin with a “treasure hunt” organized on the occasion of the International Day of Forests.

Most excursions will be free of charge, but all the participants have to confirm their presence at 03 88 06 59 58. The agenda is available following the link.

This year's event was organized by the Municipality of Haguenau, the Munchhausen Center for Initiation to the Nature and Environment, the Haguenau Tourism Office and the French National Forestry Authority (ONF).

The Forêt d’Exception® label is granted to state forests forged by human action. They combine all the qualities of sustainable development at the social and environmental levels, which has become a French benchmark for the exploitation of natural resources since the end of the 1990s.

Since 2008, seventeen forests selected from the list of national forests managed by ONF nationwide have officially been labelled Forêt d’Exception® .
