Greece has tightened penalties for traffic violations. Not only have fines been increased, but additional draconian methods of dealing with motorists have also been introduced. For example, for driving through a red light, the fine is now 700 euros, but in addition, the driver’s license and license plates are confiscated, regardless of whether the driver is a Greek citizen or not.
A family from Serbia recently got into an unpleasant situation. Having lost a decent amount for travel to a prohibiting traffic light, tourists are also left without the possibility of movement. People are at a loss - how can they not only travel, but at least return home?
According to the new traffic rules of Greece in force this year, the following fines are provided for gross violations:
- travel without stopping under the sign "STOP" 700 euros
- red light pass 700 euros
- dangerous driving 700 euros
- illegal overtaking 80 euros
- exceeding the speed limit by 20 km 20 euros
Tolerance for these types of violations is zero: in addition to money, drivers are deprived of their rights and license plates for 20 days.
However, there are violations that are punished in a very original way: there are no fines for them, the driver will just be left without documents and license plates for up to 60 days. These include:
- using a mobile phone while driving
- unfastened seat belt
- transportation of a child without a child seat
- riding a motorcycle without a helmet
The lightest punishment awaits motorists for the absence of a fire extinguisher in the car. You just have to pay 80 euros.

The head of state expressed confidence that the Forum will be held at a high level, and that its results will contribute to the development of tourism in Russia and the expansion of humanitarian and business ties.
