Global GDP losses due to the collapse of international tourism as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic may amount to more than $4 trillion by the end of 2020-2021. This forecast is contained in a report jointly prepared by experts of the UN Conference on Trade and Development and the UN World Tourism Organization.
Experts expect that the tourism sector will recover faster in countries with a high level of vaccination, such as the United Kingdom, Germany, France, Switzerland and the United States, where losses from tourism are decreasing. The situation in developing countries is exactly the opposite.
It is predicted that the normalization of the situation in the international tourism industry will occur no earlier than 2023.
