Overseas territory of France, New Caledonia decided to start gradually lifting the lockdown. As EcoTourism Expert came to know, on Monday the authorities of the archipelago will begin the gradual cancellation of measures taken to combat the spread of the new coronavirus introduced by the French authorities in early March.

According to media reports, local authorities will open parks and beaches for free access. People will be able to go "fishing and hunting, to work and to school."

Shops will also be open. However, bars, cinemas and nightclubs will remain banned from visiting.

The borders will also remain closed for tourists until further notice. Anyone arriving in overseas French territory will have to go through a 14-day quarantine at a hotel in Noumea under the supervision of medical and social services.

Earlier it was reported that in New Caledonia, 18 cases of Covid-19 infection were recorded, all of them were imported. There have been no new infections in the last 12 days.
