The wreckage was discovered and removed by the expedition members in the area of Cape Lopatka. It was organized by the Russian Geographical Society together with the Expeditionary Center of the Ministry of Defense. Employees of the Kronotsky Reserve, who have knowledge of the features of the local relief, accompanied the expedition members.

The members of the expedition managed to remove fragments of the Ventura strike aircraft from the protected area: engines and one wing. The decision on where they will go next will be taken by the Russian Ministry of Defense.
The acting director of the Kronotsky Reserve, Vsevolod Yakovlev, said that two years ago, state inspectors found fragments of another American aircraft, the Liberator bomber, near Vestnik Bay.
