Leaders of the European Union (EU) countries have decided to lock the EU external borders for most travelers from other countries for 30 days as part of measures to combat coronavirus, according to Reuters.
The citizens of EU member states will still be permitted to travel within the EU.
Each EU country will decide on imposing a 30-days ban separately, said European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen.
She added that the UK, which is leaving the EU, does not intend to close its external borders together with several other countries of the European Free Trade Association (Norway, Iceland, Liechtenstein).
It was previously reported that Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said he was locking his country's borders to foreigners, with the exception of US citizens.
On Monday, French President Emmanuel Macron announced that the French were only allowed to leave their homes for important affairs. French residents will have to observe this regime for two weeks.
To date, there are more than 76,000 confirmed cases of COVID-19 that have been reported in Europe, resulting in more than 3,000 deaths. Worldwide, the number of cases has exceeded 190,000, and the death toll is approaching 8,000.
