In the first four months of this year, Egypt has received 4.6 million tourists, bringing in revenue of $4.3 billion to the Egyptian treasury. According to the country's Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities, tourism revenues grew by 8% year-on-year last year to around $13.2 billion.
As stated by the head of the department, Ahmed Issa, this is the second highest tourist figure after the record 4.7 million people for the same period in 2019. Earlier, Egypt's Deputy Minister of Tourism Ghada Shalaby said that the number of tourists who visited the Land of the Pyramids in the first four months of this year increased by a third compared to the same period last year. "The growth is mainly due to the influx of tourists from Arab countries - it increased by 54% compared to the same period in 2023," she explained.
2023 was the most record-breaking year for Egypt in terms of the number of foreign tourists. Last year, the country received the maximum number of tourists in its history - 14.906 million people, surpassing the previous record of 2010 - 14.731 million tourists.
The authorities hope that the new five-year multiple-entry visa will help develop the country's tourism industry. The Egyptian Ministry of Internal Affairs announced the introduction of this type of visa in addition to those already existing a year ago. The new visa scheme allows foreigners to stay in Egypt for no more than 90 days per trip with the possibility of multiple entries over a five-year period. The cost of the visa is set at $700.
