Counting of Far Eastern leopards in southern Primorye is coming to an end

The press service of the national park "Land of the Leopard" reported that scientists are completing the annual count of Far Eastern leopards in southern Primorye. The full results of the research will be announced on April 5 at a press conference.

At the moment, according to preliminary data, the positive dynamics of the number of red book cats remains. The largest photomonitoring network in Russia helps scientists with accounting. More than 400 automatic forest cameras have been installed in the territories of the "Land of the Leopard", which record predators in photos and videos. The network of camera traps covers an area of more than 300 thousand hectares.

Specialists analyze the data obtained using a special program for individual identification. Artificial intelligence helps to sort the material. Every year, scientists process hundreds of thousands of images with animals.

The national park keeps separate records of leopard kittens. Last year, 13 kittens and 125 adult cats were recorded on the territory of the "Land of the Leopard".
