Dublin met St. Patrick's Day, celebrated annually on March 17, with closed pubs and deserted streets.

The most beloved Irish folk holiday was ruined by a coronavirus that turned the capital of Ireland into a"Ghost town".

Irish authorities have canceled parades in honor of St. Patrick throughout the country, banning gatherings with more than a hundred people until March 29 and requiring the closure of cafes, pubs and restaurants.

According to estimates of the RTE TV channel, about 140.000 people employed in the hotel and restaurant business, as well as in the sphere of child care, have already lost their jobs due to the restrictive measures.

There are currently 223 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Ireland, and two people have died.

Irish Prime Minister Leo Varadkar earlier said that, according to experts, the number of cases may reach 15.000 by the end of March.
