The press service of the Ministry of Natural Resources reported that a series of cleaning up reservoirs from garbage has begun in the protected areas of the country. In addition, projects are being implemented to analyze the collected waste.
In particular, in the South Kamchatka Reserve, a long-term project was launched back in 2021 to study and subsequently clean up garbage thrown onto the Sea of Okhotsk coast. This year the work was carried out in two stages.
The first included a site survey of 32.8 hectares. The reserve staff surveyed the coast using a quadrocopter for further data processing using artificial intelligence. After that, work was carried out to determine the morphology of marine debris. The experts then described the debris found at three representative sites.
The second stage consisted in cleaning the entire territory. The staff of the protected area and more than 20 volunteers were involved in this process.
"Employees of the Chikoi National Park in the Trans-Baikal Territory and the volunteer detachment "Children of Kindness" of the Zakharov secondary educational school, as part of the all-Russian campaign "Water of Russia", cleared a section of the Dyulyun River (the right tributary of the Chikoi River) with a length of more than one kilometer in June. In total, about 30 bags of garbage," the statement said.
In addition, the employees of this national park, together with the participants of the TOS "Apple Orchard", cleared the coastal zone and the bed of the Delentui River, as well as the channel of the Maly Chikoy River, from household waste.
Employees of "Reserved Ossetia-Alania" took part in the action "Water of Russia". This year, together with students from schools and colleges in Vladikavkaz, they collected bags of garbage from the banks of the water bodies of the Fiagdon and Tsey gorges.
