Scientists explained the reasons for the appearance of a killer whale with two cubs in the river in the Khabarovsk Territory.
Earlier it was reported that a family of killer whales entered the Amur River from the Sea of Okhotsk and for several days walks from the village of Mago in the Nikolaev region to the village of Tyr in the Ulch region of the Khabarovsk Territory.
The head of Rosprirodnadzor, Svetlana Radionova, said that at present, nothing threatens the life and health of marine mammals.
“They didn’t run aground and didn’t get tangled in fishing nets. Nothing needs to be done. Killer whales can stay in fresh water for up to 15 days. This information was also confirmed at the All-Russian Research Institute of Fisheries and Oceanography,” she said in her telegram -channel.
According to the employees of the National Scientific Center for Marine Biology named after Zhirmunsky, the appearance of killer whales in the river is associated with active spawning of chum salmon - the animals examine their hunting grounds.
At the end of the hunting season, killer whales will go back to the Sea of Okhotsk on their own.
