Chinese authorities have decided to ban the trade and consumption of wild animals over an outbreak of coronavirus. The decision was made by the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress (NPC).

According to the statement of NPC, the adoption of such a ban will help protect society from viruses and preserve wildlife.

Previously it was reported that the country's authorities had already tried to introduce bans on the trade in wild animals, but the attempts were ineffective.

Over the past week, the virus began to spread rapidly in Italy and South Korea.
