Planted over 135 years ago, it is one of the oldest plants in the city.
«Over the years, the wisteria, relying on a hornbeam growing nearby, managed to rise to a height of more than 17 meters. Over time, the hornbeam reached its age limit and died, so the specialists had to look for a new support for the wisteria. With the help of special structures, it was forwarded to the nearby pine trees, along which it winds up now,» the press service of the Sochi National Park said.
Today, a century-old plant can count more than 17 liana-shaped trunks up to 20 cm thick. At the same time, the diameter of common trunks near the ground reaches 67 and 80 cm. Expressive tassels of purple flowers from 10 to 40 cm long resemble cascades of a waterfall.
You can admire the beautiful and very old wisteria at the bottom of the Arboretum Park. The administration of the Sochi National Park asks the guests of the arboretum not to climb the tree trunk for the sake of spectacular photos. The plant may not withstand the load and die.
