An outbreak of coronavirus in the world may affect the number of tourists arriving in the summer season in Canada, experts expect.
"Orders for tours from China decreased by about 70% from October last year to March this year, which is significant," says Maya Lange, vice president of global marketing for Destination BC, a state-owned company that attracts tourists to Quebec.
Several canadian travel agencies have withdrawn all their advertising placements in China and have redoubled their efforts to attract tourists from the US and UK.
According to Statistics Canada, 571.000 tourists arrived from China to the maple leaf country in 2019.
Canada, where the risk of coronavirus transmission remains low, is still considered a safe place for international and national travelers.
According to the latest data, the number of people infected with coronavirus in the world exceeded 95.000 people, 3.285 died, and more than 53.000 were cured. Cases of infection were recorded in 76 countries.
