The vocal group "Eternal Youth" from Bulgarian Nikolaevo took part in the celebration of the mayor's day in the Turkish city of Odrin. Both cities were once part of the Roman province of Thrace. And although 2000 years have passed since then, Thracian traditions are still alive here and attract tourists who visit colorful folklore festivals.
Bulgarian pensioners, who make up the majority of the "Eternal Youth" group, sang and danced with such enthusiasm in Turkey that local residents gradually joined their traditional dance. A common dance to the rhythm of Thracian melodies became the culmination of the festival.
"Wonderful artists, wonderful people, we are impressed by the positive energy they carry," said Odrin Deputy Mayor Ertugrul Tanrakulu about the guests from Bulgaria. Mr. Ertugrul got acquainted with the work of the "Eternal Youth" ensemble during his visit to Nikolaevo. It was then that the Bulgarian artists were invited to perform at the festival in Odrin.
In turn, the "Eternal Youth" group was pleased with the warm welcome they received from the Turkish audience. "Thracian culture is a common heritage, so it is close and familiar to us. We would like to jointly organize more such events. Now we will be waiting for the visit of Odrin residents to our city," said the ensemble's soloist Anelia Dineva.
The celebration of the mayor's day took place in Odrin as part of the European Week of Local Self-Government.
