Brazilian authorities allocated $120 million for tourism development in 2020. As EcoTourism Expert came to know, such a decision was made by the head of the country, Jair Bolsonaro, in order to attract as many tourists to Brazil as possible.

According to the president of the Brazilian tourism organization Embratur Gilson Machado, they intend to use the budget to launch additional flights from the United States to various cities in Brazil.

Brazilian authorities began developing strategies to attract tourists last year. In June, the government made changes to the visa regime for visitors from the United States, Canada, Australia and Japan and plans to do the same for India and China to develop tourism. This caused a large influx of tourists. For example, the number of Americans booking flights to Brazil jumped by 39 percent.

In addition, Brazil played a serious role in seriously addressing security issues in the country. According to official figures, during the ruling of Jair Bolsonaro cases of violence in Brazilian cities decreased by 25 percent.

According to the World Bank and the World Tourism Organization of the United Nations (UNWTO), international tourism accounts for only 2.5 percent of Brazil's export earnings.

In 2018 the country was visited by 6.589 million visitors, ranking in terms of the international tourist arrivals as the second main destination in South America.
