Under favorable weather conditions, the opening of the Sky of Russia festival will take place in the Monastery Garden near the Ryazan Kremlin. 25 teams from different cities of the country are expected to take part in the festival.
“It will not be just observation of the flight of a large number of balloons. Everyone will witness the virtuosic performance of complex tasks by aeronauts. Dynamic flights will make the summer even brighter and more beautiful,” the festival organizers note on the event website.
This year at the festival it is planned to revive the "cult event with the evening glow of balloons", which is loved by the audience. According to the organizers, this is a separate reason to visit Ryazan during the festival days.
“The traditional place for flights is the left bank of the Oka River. From the air, the famous Oka meanders and floodplain meadows are opened, located on a mosaic of various relief complexes, 13-16 thousand years old,” they note.
This year the International Festival "Sky of Russia" turns 30 years old.
The very first ballooning festival in the history of the country was held in Ryazan on May 11-13, 1990. Then 27 teams came to the city, many of them from Western and Eastern Europe (England, Germany, Yugoslavia).
The event aroused great interest. The famous TV presenter Yury Senkevich was at the festival all the days with his program “Cinema Travelers Club”. Director Vladimir Menshov also followed him.
The authors of the idea of holding the festival were the aeronaut Lev Mavrin (now the head of the Aeronautical Sports Federation of the Ryazan region) and the Russian traveler, Hero of the USSR Mikhail Malakhov. Since then, Ryazan has been considered the birthplace of domestic aeronautics.
Over the entire duration of the festival, about 440 balloons rose into the sky over Ryazan. About 10 thousand people visit the Sky of Russia annually, not only from the Ryazan region and other regions of the country, but also from abroad.
