Animal therapy sessions are conducted at the Jean-Lesage international airport in Quebec City with passengers experiencing fear of flying on a plane.
As part of the eight-week pilot project, students at the La Pocatière training and education center were able to put their training skills into practice by conducting with specially trained dogs relaxation sessions for air passengers.
"Our students usually conduct animal therapy sessions in hospitals and schools. In these places, we have practical experience, but communication with airport passengers is a qualitatively new practice for us, and we hope for help from its administration, " said the head of La Pocatière Marie-Claude Deschênes.
Employees of the Quebec City international airport have long practiced soothing communication with passengers who are prone to aircraft phobia. They may experience a rapid heartbeat, heavy sweating or irritability.
