During a regular raid on the territory of the Caucasian Reserve, officers of the operational group detained a man who was collecting plants in the nature conservation area. Andranik S., a resident of the Apsheron region, cut 1116 branches of Ruscus colchicus and put them in bags. But he did not manage to leave with the valuable cargo: the violator was detained on the spot by the staff of the reserve. An act and a protocol on violation of the environmental regime and damage to the protected area were immediately drawn up.
Ruscus colchicus has a very limited distribution area, part of which is located in Russia, grows in the Krasnodar Territory and the Republic of Adygea, in the basins of the Belaya and Laba rivers, along the Black Sea coast from the Tuapse region to Sochi. In his explanation, the violator indicated that he was on the territory of the reserve, because he did not know about the environmental status of the territory and the rules of stay. The man is not employed; he said, the need made him commit a violation. The damage caused by illegal collection of Ruscus colchicus was estimated at 2,092,500 rubles.
